July Garden of the Month

The garden of Dave and Tracy Jacobson on Winslow Circle was selected as the July Garden of the Month. The couple changed their thistle covered backyard into a pretty sloped perennial garden and added a small pond.

Dave said they enjoy sitting on their deck at night with a glass of homemade wine and listen to the relaxing murmur of the fountain in the pond while admiring their garden.

Members met at the home of Anne Miller for the monthly meeting.  Master Gardener Marian Thill gave a presentation on how to create the ideal environment to attract a wide variety of birds and butterflies to ones yard.  Planting a mixture of native plants, shrubs, trees and annuals will provide nourishment throughout the year. Pictured from let to right are Barbara Donnelly, Anne Miller, Nancy Stark and Marian Thill.

June Garden of the Month

The garden of Joanne Bala on Prairie Ridge Drive was selected as the June Garden of the Month.  Six years ago her previous home in Palatine was completely destroyed in a fire.  Instead of rebuilding Joanne and her husband decided to buy the current home in  Woodstock.  They were able to recover some plants from the Palatine lot but most of this garden was started from scratch.  All sides of the house are planted and the backyard is a quiet oasis with a mixture of shade and sun perennials.

May meeting

The May meeting was held at the home of Jennifer Seegers (pictured in the center) with co-hostesses Jean Maxwell (left) and Sondra Matterness (right).  In honor of Cinco de Mayo  Jennifer served a Mexican lunch.

Garden Club members brought plants from their own gardens to exchange for some new ones.
